    About HowTech

HowTech is a small team of architects, engineers, security specialists and designers at the Fibrehub in Redruth, Cornwall, helping ambitious organisations make better technology decisions. We build software, secure and run infrastructure, and help clients make sense of AI, mostly in insurance, travel and payments. We are evolving how we use AI tools to design, build and run systems, so the way we deliver keeps getting better.

    The role

We are looking for a Delivery Manager to own scheduling and delivery across our software development team and our infrastructure and security team, as they come together into a single delivery function. You will plan the work, run agile delivery using Scrum and Kanban, manage capacity across internal and client commitments, and be the link between the teams, our Directors and our clients.

Delivery is the core of the role. Alongside it, you will support our agile consultancy work and client workshops, and join sales conversations with our directors. You do not need to be an experienced consultant: we want someone who has done some client-facing work and is keen to develop it, with mentoring from our senior team.

    Key responsibilities

    Delivery and scheduling

    • Own the schedule and delivery plan across the software development and infrastructure and security teams, for both internal and client work
    • Act as Scrum Master for development work, and run Kanban or other flow-based approaches for operational and infrastructure work
    • Plan, facilitate and continuously improve team ceremonies, including planning and estimation, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives and backlog refinement
    • Identify, track and remove impediments, and coordinate work that spans both teams, such as releases that need infrastructure changes
    • Plan around client-owned ticketing systems, where client tickets are the contractual unit of work

    Capacity, planning and forecasting

    • Plan and manage capacity across sprints and clients, balancing internal and client commitments
    • Give realistic start dates and delivery forecasts for new work, using velocity, flow and other delivery metrics
    • Adapt planning and estimation to a team that makes heavy use of AI-assisted development
    • Track delivery against fixed-price deliverables and service levels, and flag over-commitment, scope and resourcing risks early

    Stakeholders, requirements and product

Working alongside our product owners and tech leads, you will lead the non-technical side of product ownership:

    • Run discovery conversations with business owners and clients to understand the real need behind a request
    • Prioritise work by business value, cost and risk, and make trade-offs visible
    • Manage expectations, negotiate scope and handle competing demands
    • Translate between technical and business language in both directions
    • Communicate roadmaps, progress, risks and forecasts clearly to non-technical audiences
    • Define what success looks like for a piece of work and check it was achieved

    Project management

    • Take ownership of project management for selected areas of work, including scope, timelines, risks, dependencies and budgets
    • Help improve how we work as we align our delivery practice with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001

    Client consultancy and sales (developing)

    • Support agile consultancy engagements and client workshops, initially alongside our senior team, taking on more as you grow into it
    • Join sales conversations with prospective and existing clients alongside our senior team, contributing delivery planning, estimates and timelines
    • Represent HowTech professionally and help build long-term client relationships

    Experience and skills

    Essential

    • Proven experience as a Delivery Manager, Scrum Master or in a similar role, owning scheduling and delivery for one or more teams
    • Hands-on experience of Scrum and Kanban, and of adapting the process to different kinds of work
    • Experience of capacity planning and delivery forecasting
    • Strong skills in requirements discovery, prioritisation and expectation management
    • Confident with clients and senior stakeholders, including running meetings and workshops

    Desirable

    • Consultancy, agency or client-facing advisory experience
    • Exposure to pre-sales, such as scoping, estimating or proposal work
    • Product ownership experience, or a product owner or Scrum qualification
    • Formal project management experience or qualification
    • Technical understanding of software development, cloud or infrastructure to understand the work and challenge estimates credibly
    • Experience of, or a strong interest in, how AI tools change software delivery
    • Experience delivering against fixed-price deliverables or service levels
    • Experience with Azure DevOps

    Personal attributes

    • Confident communicator who works well with developers, engineers, business owners and clients
    • Calm and practical under pressure, comfortable balancing competing priorities
    • Enables the team to do their best work while taking ownership of outcomes
    • Organised, with a good eye for detail, risk and dependencies
    • Keen to learn, and to grow into consultancy work with mentoring
    • Curious about new tools and comfortable with the way we work changing quickly

    What we offer

    • A salary of £52,000 to £62,000, depending on experience
    • 35 days' holiday, including bank holidays
    • Private medical insurance
    • Medical cash plan
    • Pension
    • A training budget, including support towards relevant certification
    • Hybrid working from the Fibrehub in Redruth
    • Structured mentoring from our senior team as you develop the consultancy side of the role
    • Room to grow your role as the company grows
