Cookies policy

1. Overview
This page explains the cookies and similar technologies used on howtech.uk (and our other domains howell.uk and howell.co.uk). It complements our Privacy policy. We comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR – non-essential cookies are set only after you give consent via our cookie banner.
2. Manage your preferences
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time:
We also honour the Global Privacy Control browser signal – if your browser sends GPC, we automatically treat it as a "reject" for non-essential cookies.

4. Categories explained
Strictly necessary – required for the site to function (security, authentication, remembering your consent). These do not require consent under PECR reg. 6(4).
Analytics & session replay – Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics 4. Loaded only after you opt in. Form fields and sensitive content are masked by default. GA4 runs with advertising features disabled.
We do not run any advertising or marketing trackers on this site – no third-party visitor-identification, retargeting pixels, or ad networks. The previous HubSpot tracker was removed when we migrated our marketing stack to MailerLite (email only, no on-site tracker).
4a. Similar technologies in our emails
Emails we send (newsletter, resource downloads, contact replies) use two similar technologies that aren't cookies but serve a comparable purpose:
- Click tracking – links in our emails are rewritten to route through
links.howell.co.ukbefore redirecting to the final URL, so we can see which links are useful. Applied to all our outbound email. - Open tracking pixel – our newsletter contains a 1×1 invisible image that tells us when the message has been opened. Not used on transactional emails (contact replies, resource downloads).
Both are operated by Resend on our behalf. See section 4a of our Privacy policy for the legal basis and how to opt out.
5. Browser-level controls
In addition to our banner, you can manage cookies in your browser. Note that blocking strictly-necessary cookies will break parts of the site.
6. Changes
When we add, remove or change a tracker we update this page and bump the consent version, which re-prompts you on your next visit.
